Q #7
:

Logical Question

Directions:For questions, Read the following information and answer the questions given below.

In a family gathering there are two males who are grandfathers and four males who are fathers. In the same gathering there are two females who are grandmothers and four females who are mothers. There is at least one grandson or a granddaughter present in this gathering. There are two husband wife pairs in this group. These can either be a grandfather and a grandmother, or a father and a mother. The single grandfather (whose wife is not present) has two grandsons and a son present. The single grandmother (whose husband is not present) has two grand daughters and a daughter present. A grandfather or a grandmother present with their spouses does not have any grandson or granddaughter present.

What is the minimum number of people present in this gathering?
+

Count number of males and females Males = 4 + 1 + 1 (4 fathers, 2 grandfathers are included in 2 fathers, 1 grandson, Husband/wife pairs are included, one more grandson) Females = 4 + 1 + 1 (follow similar logic as for males) There are 6 males and 6 females. Hence the minimum number of people present can be 6 + 6 = 12.

Logical Question

Directions: In each question, you are given certain data followed by two statements. For answering the questions:

  • Mark 1. If both the statements together are insufficient to answer the question.
  • Mark 2. If any one of the two statements is sufficient to answer the question.
  • Mark 3. If each statement alone is sufficient to answer the question.

How old is Sachin in 1997?

  1. Sachin is 11 years younger than Anil whose age will be prime number in 1998.
  2. Anil’s age was a prime number in 1996.

+

Explanation: Anil’s age was a prime number in 1996 and 1998. So Anil’s age in these two yeas can be a pair of such numbers which are prime, and differ by 2. We have many such pairs - (3,5), (5, 7), (11, 13)….. And it is not possible to arrive at a unique answer. So the answer is (1).

Q #10
:

Logical Question

Directions: Each question is followed by two statements. You have to decide whether the information provided the statements is sufficient for answering the question.

  • Mark 1If the question can be answered by using one of the statements alone, but cannot be answered by using the other statement alone.
  • Mark 2. If the question can be answered by using either statement alone.
  • Mark 3. If the question can be answered by using both statements together, but cannot be answered by using either statement alone.
  • Mark 4. If the question cannot be answered even by using both the statements together.

What is the profit percentage in the transaction?

  1. The ratio of S.P. to C.P. is 2 : 5
  2. The Marked Price is Rs.20 and the Cost Price is Rs.15.

+

Explanation: From statement A alone SP : CP = 2 : 5 • profit percentage = (2 – 5)/5 = 60% • statement A alone is sufficient From statement B alone MP = 20 & CP = 15 But as SP is not given, profit percent is cannot be determined.
