The CAT 2021 Notification is likely to be published in newspapers and on websites such as MBAUniverse.com on July 24-25, 2021. After a five-year hiatus, IIM Ahmedabad is hosting CAT 2021 and has named Prof M P Ram Mohan, an IIMA faculty member, as the exam convener. With the timely selection of the CAT 2021 Convener, it is believed that the CAT exam would be held without delay, but with minor modifications. The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2021 is India’s largest national level entrance exam for MBA admissions in 2022 at IIMs and other top MBA schools. The CAT 2021 exam is scheduled for November 28, 2021. On a rotating basis, one of the six older IIMs conducts the CAT Exam. The job of conducting the CAT exam in 2021 has been handed to IIM Ahmedabad this year. The final CAT exam was held in 2015 at IIM Ahmedabad. For the advantage of test takers, it was the first CAT exam on the current format, which modified the entire CAT entrance exam pattern from two to three parts and incorporated non-MCQ type questions.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, IIM Indore ran the CAT exam in a revised format last year, with a decreased amount of 76 questions, a two-hour time limit, and three testing periods instead of two. This year’s CAT admission exam is likely to span three hours, contain 100 questions, and be administered in two sessions, as was the case last year.
What is IIM CAT?
CAT is the Common Admission Test for admission to MBA/PGDM programmes in 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top MBA colleges like FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR Mumbai, IMI New Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad and hundreds of other top MBA colleges in India. More than two lakh candidates appear in CAT every year and this number is rising consistently, to explore admission opportunity in MBA programmes offered by IIMs and other top B-schools.
IIMs will only accept the CAT 2021 score for admission in 2022 and will not accept any other test score. In India, the CAT 2021 will be held in over 150 cities and 400 venues.
CAT 2021 is the entryway to one-year MBA programmes at IIMs, in addition to being the most important entrance exam for two-year full-time postgraduate management programmes (MBA/PGDM).
Since 2012, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Science (IISC) have accepted CAT instead of JMET for admission to their Management programmes.

Important Changes in CAT over the Years
Journey of IIM-CAT has witnessed substantial changes. In recent years, number of sections and type of questions in CAT have changed substantially. Important changes in pattern and conduct of CAT are shared below:

- CAT now has 3 sections instead of 2
- CAT has introduced 25 to 30 percent questions with No Negative marking
CAT Exam pattern over the past 10 years since it was computerized in 2009 has gone for perceptible changes. CAT paper pattern prior to 2009 was paper-pen based. CAT exam format was changed from paper based exam to CAT online computer based test in 2009. Even after that CAT paper pattern continued changing from 3 sections to 2 and then CAT pattern was changed to 3 sections in 2015. Since then CAT is following similar pattern. CAT 2021 pattern also remains the same as that of CAT exam 2021 pattern with 3 sections and 3 hours time although the number of MCQs and Non-MCQs may change.
